Our association

Since 1972, we have shared a responsibility for wildlife, forests and the local area around Berching and Dietfurt.

Hunting, tradition and nature conservation

Our association at a glance

Jägerverein Berching-Dietfurt is BJV district group 133 in the Upper Palatinate. We are your local community and part of the Bavarian Hunting Association (BJV), the state hunting association of Bavaria.

Our work ranges from managing native wildlife and caring for its habitats to hunting training and further education. We work with agriculture and forestry and seek dialogue with everyone who helps shape our landscape.

Hunting horn playing and Hubertus celebrations are just as much a part of our association life as shooting practice, dog training and environmental education. Through our work with school classes and holiday programmes, we bring to life the connections between hunting, wildlife and nature conservation.

1972 · The beginning

A meeting at the Bräustüberl became an association.

The 1972 district reform split the then Beilngries district hunting group. Around 26 to 30 hunters from the Upper Palatinate area met at the Bräustüberl and decided to establish their own hunting association for Berching.

They raised their initial funds that very evening: at Max Loichinger's suggestion, a hat was passed round and brought in around 600 DM. This initiative grew into today's Jägerverein Berching-Dietfurt.

Association work and the state association

Our district group in the BJV

Our dog training, field shooting, hunting horn players and environmental education all form part of a wider picture. The BJV brings together the work of its district groups and hunting associations, provides specialist knowledge and supports training and further education. What you experience in the association is connected to a network extending beyond our region.

The Bavarian Hunting Association represents hunters in Bavaria and works to protect native wildlife, nature and species. As a recognised nature conservation association, it brings together sustainable use, the hunting-ground system and hunting heritage with responsibility for habitats. These association-wide responsibilities complement our work in local hunting grounds.

Our values

Our work and values

Wildlife management and nature conservation aim to maintain abundant wildlife and a balanced diversity of animal and plant life. The following principles come from our previous club website. They describe how our local group puts responsibility, expertise and dialogue with the public into practice.

Hunting benefits society
  • We support landowners as partners and holders of the hunting rights.
  • We ensure that huntable wild animals can live in our cultivated landscape and be managed sustainably.
  • We are committed to combating animal diseases and supply game meat from local hunting grounds.
Protect nature and wildlife
  • We hunt species whose populations can sustain harvesting or which need to be hunted for nature and species conservation reasons.
  • We aim for a balanced relationship between wildlife populations and their habitats.
  • By managing populations of hoofed game, we help create healthy forests suited to their location.
  • We also take shared responsibility for species that may not be hunted, improve habitats and seek dialogue with others who care about nature.
Responsibility towards wildlife
  • We hunt in accordance with wildlife biology principles.
  • Wild animals may only be killed for a valid reason and must be killed in a manner that complies with animal welfare requirements, without unnecessary suffering.
Develop your knowledge and skills
  • We practise regularly to maintain our practical skills and shooting ability.
  • We keep up to date with improvements and new developments.
  • We examine knowledge handed down to us and remain open to new findings.
Open to the public
  • We are available as a point of contact for nature, wildlife and hunting.
  • We exercise our rights in the hunting grounds with restraint and respect other people’s need to enjoy nature.
