Practical fieldwork & hunting law
Managing a hunting ground requires reliable documents and easy access to information. Here you can find official forms, relevant contacts and information on hunting seasons, forest regeneration and wildlife damage.
Documents for practical game management
A new hunting lease, a change in the hunting ground or the annual game bag return: the district of Neumarkt provides its own forms for these tasks. Use the current versions and check with the hunting authority which documents are required for your matter.
Contracts, permits and reports
- Hunting lease agreement ↗
The district's published model contract for leasing a hunting ground.
- Game lease agreement – amendment or extension ↗
For recording changes or a contract extension.
- Hunting permit ↗
The official template provided for a hunting permit in a hunting ground.
- Bag list A/B ↗
The form for recording the hunting bag. The form is available on the district website.
- Culling plan: responsible hunting authority ↗
Check with the hunting authority which cull plan or notification is required for your hunting ground. At the time of checking, the district’s forms directory did not list a separate, up-to-date cull plan template.
Game management association: election documents
Do you support the organisation of a hunting cooperative or are you preparing an election? The district office publishes an information sheet and suitable templates for this. The documents can be put together according to preparation, participation and result documentation.
Participation and representation
Document the result
Use the version provided by the district authority. Check with the hunting authority about the procedure and the required supporting documents; its contact details are further down this page.

Hunting year and hunting-ground records
A shared hunting-ground file helps keep the lease and any amendments, hunting permits, contacts, planning documents and game bag records easy to find. A practical routine is to agree responsibilities before the start of the new hunting year, keep entries up to date and check outstanding reports in good time.
The Bavarian implementing regulation requires a game bag record and specifies that it must be submitted to the hunting authority. After the hunting year, the completed record must be submitted by 10 April at the latest. Additional requirements apply to certain game species and reports.

Culling plans and changes from 2026
The rules distinguish between game species subject to cull plans and the possible hunting of roe deer without a cull plan under the statutory conditions. The latter is subject to notification and further conditions. Before making a change, check with the authorities which rules apply to your hunting ground.

Check open seasons before use
Use the currently applicable official version of the hunting seasons and observe any local orders or special regulations. The following source links directly to § 19 of the Bavarian implementing regulation.

Forest regeneration and forestry report
The AELF Amberg-Neumarkt publishes forestry reports on forest regeneration. They describe how browsing and fraying damage affect young trees. Together with assessments for individual hunting grounds, they help inform discussions about the state of the woodland and local hunting plans.
The AELF website has the 2024 reports for our three local hunting groups: 340 Berching, 341 Staufersbuch and 342 Dietfurt. Woodland visits with landowners and forestry professionals connect these data with observations of actual regeneration.
Game damage and documentation
In cases of game damage, the nature of the damage, the area affected and the contractual arrangements are important. Keep a clear record of your observations and speak to those involved at an early stage. The BJV explains liability for compensation, possible types of damage and the importance of reporting damage in good time.

In Bavaria, the preliminary procedure generally goes through the municipality responsible for the property. Check the current reporting deadlines as soon as you become aware of damage; discussing it between yourselves does not replace the required notification.

Initial legal advice for BJV members
The BJV offers its members brief initial legal advice on hunting and firearms law. Send a short summary of your enquiry to recht@jagd-bayern.de and provide a telephone number for a return call. Further legal support is arranged separately; current terms and consultation hours are listed on the association’s website.

Emergencies and first aid
Agree the rescue chain before the hunt
The SVLFG recommends checking network availability, telling another person your location and expected return time, and keeping first-aid supplies within reach. First-aid knowledge should be refreshed regularly.
For joint hunts, responsibilities, communication channels and a suitable access point for the rescue service should be agreed in advance. Use known rescue points where available, and agree with the hunt leader how helpers will be directed to the scene of the accident.

Emergency services 112Give the exact location or coordinates, describe what happened, state the number of people injured and any visible injuries. Stay available in case you are contacted with questions, and follow the instructions of the emergency call centre.
An emergency call is no substitute for practical first-aid training. Ask recognised aid organisations about current courses.

Closed seasons and official exemptions
The standard hunting seasons are the starting point. Under certain conditions, Art. 33 BayJG provides for official regulations and individual orders concerning closed seasons. This does not in itself mean that a requested exemption is permitted.
Tell the hunting authority the species, affected hunting ground, period and specific reason. It will clarify who is responsible, which documents are required and what procedure may apply. No confirmed general online application process for these cases was found on the district’s website.

For cormorant reporting, the district provides a separate form: Open the official reporting form ↗. The responsible office explains how to submit it and the requirements.
Take a close look at the habitat.

Practical wildlife management involves keeping a watchful eye on wildlife and its habitat. Sharing observations from individual hunting grounds brings people together in the local hunting group.
