To have self-harvested game tested and submitted, you need the relevant official contacts. Here you’ll find information on submitting samples, game tags and liaising with the veterinary office and food safety authority.
Before submitting a sample, check which documents are required and when it can be accepted. Discuss the requirements for a sales business with the responsible food safety authority.
Trichinella testing and sample drop-off points
For wild boar and badgers, official examination and documented clearance form part of the preparation for supplying the meat for human consumption. Here you will find local contacts and the source date for each.
New address from 1 March 2026
Neumarkt · Veterinary Office
Nürnberger Straße 1 92318 Neumarkt · Room B U21
The former location in Brunnleitstraße has moved. Drop off during the veterinary office’s opening hours. Complete the game-origin certificate in full, enclose the game tags and include the exact examination fee.
Samples can be submitted by prior telephone appointment. In 2026, the District Office confirmed that the relocation in Neumarkt does not affect this facility.
The older official overview lists Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8–10 am each day. Please confirm these times before setting off; according to the 2026 notice, the office remains in place.
The laboratory list from February 2022, which is still linked, contains an outdated address for Neumarkt. The newer notice from March 2026 is authoritative for the location. Samples taken after an inspection period can only be considered at the next examination; special examinations may incur additional fees.
Sampling and game tags
Independent official collection of trichinella samples requires the transfer of duties by the authorities. The district offers an application to transfer responsibility for collecting samples from and marking harvested wild boar.
Before the first sample is taken
Check with the veterinary office what training, evidence and authorisation are required in your case. Also ask about the issue or reordering of game tags and game origin certificates.
The game-origin certificate documents the result or the release time determined by the examiner. Venison from wild boar or badger may only be placed on the market in accordance with this entry. Simply handing in the sample is not sufficient.
Ask at the time of submission how you will receive the result and release. Research did not confirm a public online findings list for the district.
Requirements depend on what you supply and to whom. If you are planning to set up a game larder or start selling game, it is worth consulting the food safety authority.
In the skin or hide
The Bavarian technical guidance describes the direct supply of small quantities of self-harvested game, up to one day’s bag, to consumers or local retailers within a 100 km radius. Training and hygiene requirements apply; signs of concern and trichinella testing requirements must still be observed.
Butchered game meat
Registration as a food business operator is required for the small-quantity supply of fresh, butchered game meat described here. Clarify in advance the relevant food-safety authority, premises, in-house checks and traceability.
Game belonging to other hunters or processing
Accepting game from others for butchering or for the production of meat products entails further requirements. The Bavarian guidance distinguishes between retail registration and, where applicable, approval. Describe your planned operation in detail to the authority.
The district information sheet is still published, but is dated May 2020. It is older, supplementary guidance; check current requirements for your business with the authorities.
Testing for trichinae, measuring radiocaesium and monitoring African swine fever serve different purposes. If you find wild boar that appear abnormal, sick or dead, check what to do with the veterinary office: 09181 / 470-1421. The LGL website provides monitoring forms and sampling guidance.
