Hunting licence & firearms law
From your first hunting licence to the right government form: here you’ll find the current procedures for applications, renewals and firearms-related matters in the district of Neumarkt.
Hunting licence and firearms law: dealing with the authorities
For hunting licences, the district office distinguishes between an initial issue and a renewal. An initial licence is issued in person by appointment. A renewal can be submitted by post using the published procedure.
For your application, use the current form from the hunting authority. The specific documents required and the desired period of validity should be dealt with in the next step, “Prepare application”.

Applications and required documents
Prepare a complete folder of documents for processing. This will help the hunting authority identify your enquiry and tell you how to submit it.
- the completed current application form,
- proof of hunting third-party liability insurance for the requested period of validity,
- the previous hunting licence when renewing it.
A recent passport photo is also required if the current hunting licence is full and cannot be extended further. If you have any questions, please check by phone in advance with the department about sending it or handing it in in person.
Forms for hunting licences and firearms
The Public Safety department is responsible for firearms permits in the district. The official forms directory lists the following options:
- Firearms ownership card: application under the Weapons Act ↗
Applications for firearms permits are listed under green, yellow and red firearms certificates. Check with the relevant authority which procedure applies to your request.
- Firearm storage: photo evidence form ↗
The district provides its own form as proof of storage. Use the information requested there and the agreed method of submission.
- European Firearms Pass: issue or renewal ↗
A separate application form and information sheet are available in the district directory.
- Permit under Section 27 of the Explosives Act ↗
The directory lists a separate application for the issue or renewal of this permit.
Changes to details held by the firearms authority
Section 37a of the Weapons Act sets out the notification requirements for holders of a firearms ownership card or equivalent permits. These include the acquisition and transfer of firearms requiring a permit. Under this provision, notification must be made to the competent authority in writing or electronically within two weeks.
Ask the firearms authority which form is currently required, what evidence is needed and which submission method is permitted. The notification and any necessary change to the permit documents should be clearly identified as separate procedures.

The Federal Office of Administration provides information about the National Weapons Register and the right to access data stored about you. If you have questions about register data relating to your local case, your first point of contact is the competent firearms authority.

European Firearms Pass
The European firearms pass is for temporarily taking registered firearms with you when visiting other EU or Schengen countries. It is not a document for permanently transferring firearms abroad. Check the specific requirements for your trip and apply locally through the district authority.

Submit identity cards and certificates
The district authority offers encrypted transmission via Cryptshare and a secure contact form with BayernID. Use the contact options to find the channels for hunting and firearms law.
For personal documents and supporting evidence, use the secure method agreed with the authority. Ordinary email is suitable for general enquiries, not confidential attachments. Also check whether your application requires a specific form: secure file transfer does not automatically meet this requirement.
