Is 3 November a day of hypocritical tradition-keeping?
We hunters are often accused of this, and hardcore animal rights activists call on clergy to deny hunters the Church’s blessing.
Perhaps, then, we should consistently demand the same of others.
Where forests are exploited solely out of greed for profit and game is viewed only as a “pest”. Where ever higher culls are demanded and hunting law is to be changed to the detriment of the creatures entrusted to our care.
Hunting means taking responsibility for all the animals in creation, for healthy and diverse wildlife populations; it means caring for wildlife and harvesting it. We therefore wish all hunters, for whom ethical hunting is not just a word but an obligation, a reflective St Hubert’s Day and the strength to continue standing up for the habitats of our wildlife and for ethical hunting.
