Fifteen highly motivated participants joined us on the last Saturday in March for our Public Relations/School for Life workshop.
In the morning, we simulated a typical day in the forest on the hunting area, like the days held several times a year for nursery and schoolchildren, as well as groups from associations, on the Brom family’s hunting area. There was laughter at our gate, where everyone was allowed to hop or fly into the forest as a wild animal. Of course, participants were also asked to look for the colours of the forest and find objects that do not belong there. We presented various simple activities that can be carried out with all children using little material and without much effort. The focus of our public relations work is to explain nature to children and show them how valuable the forest and its inhabitants are. We do not want every child to become a future hunter, but we do want children to understand how important it is to treat the forest and wildlife with care.
As a team activity, our participants were asked to create a heart from natural materials, which they did wonderfully.
After lunch together, there was a short theoretical session covering some organisational matters and explaining what is important and what is not. Our hunter Susanne had plenty of helpful tips on where to find excellent free materials outside the State Hunting Association. Each participant received a lovingly prepared bag of materials containing useful brochures, information, craft materials and inspiration for a day in the forest. It also included a USB stick with brochures in PDF format and numerous guides for project days.
We are delighted that hunters from various district groups joined us, and we say THANK YOU for your interest. We hope you enjoy your activities with children in the forest as much as we always do, and hope you will all spread the message: “Hunting is more” and “you only love what you know, and you only protect what you love”
